June Blog Hop "Timberline"

Saturday, May 31, 2014

Hi everyone, I'm back for the Close to My Heart June blog hop!

So, if you came from Cydney Fowler's great blog, you are in the right place.  If you have jumped here and just discovered our blog hop, feel free to check the list at Damask Divas blog to find the complete list of blog hop participants.”

This month our little group is working with the Timberline paper pack, it's a great paper pack for more of those summertime camping/outdoor photos or those big and little boys in your life. In my case I was needing something for my mom. She is always writing notes and cards and I find her buying stationary a couple times a year, the last time she was looking she was fussing about wishing there was something a bit more masculine for some of the men she knows. I thought finally something I can give her that she needs and I know she'll use.

In my brainstorming and trying to find a more neutral/non floral approach to cards I ran across a great inspiration card on Pinterest here. Very elegant and simple at the same time and just enough layers. Even better it is a variation on a one sheet wonder card using a 6 by 6 sheet of paper, meaning I can make several from a portion of a sheet and still have more than enough for other projects and I can extend the paper paper pack.

What do you guys think? My husband saw this and said "Wow, cool, a father's day card? I love the bug!"  Boy approved, yippee.

All products used in this are Close to My Heart, for this card I used the argyle pattern from the Timberline paper pack, Lagoon actually Twilight and Colonial White cardstock. This adorable dragonfly was stamped with lagoon ink. It's actually from the Skylark Worksop on the Go Scrapbooking Kit.  If you are interested in amy of these projects you can click on the Close to My Heart badge in the corner or any of the product links which will take you to my store.

The next blog hop participant on the list Kelly Janes  Hope you have a great time on our hop and checking out all the creations using Timberline. If you get lost, just hop on over to  the Damask Diva's Blog for the full list.”

June Cards

Sunday, July 21, 2013

Can you believe that July is already half over? The summer is zooming by fast and has been really busy. I've had baby showers, weddings, father's day and birthdays galore. I didn't make as many cards as I would have liked but I did manage to get two done and out the door. The first one was a card for Father's day for my FIL.
I hate to say it but I was less than creative on the card. I totally loved everything about a card I found over at Paperwishes so ordered everything to copy the card. The great steampunk paper, the vintage cars Dazzles the smooch inks and I lifted the design and made a copy. It turned out great and the act of putting it together sprouted a few ideas for the future.

I love Dazzles and have a three ring binder full of them and often forget that. If I'm lucking during a creative brainstorming process I'll  remember and be able to pull out some sheet that ends up being just the perfect thing for what I'm working on.

The next card I did was for my husbands birthday. We are both huge Star Wars fans and I couldn't let an opportunity to cut Darth Vader on my Silhouette Cameo go by. (Honey's a huge fan of the Empire.)
It was simple but the result was an ecstatic husband and that's what counts. Especially since the poor guys had his birthday sandwiched between a baby shower and and a wedding and his birthday presents have still not arrived. (My bad)  Anyhooo. I used card stock from Close to My Heart. I love how smooth it is and how wonderful it is to work with. Simple  black layers on the cuts and where the white (Colonial White to be exact) was showing I used Silver Smooch ink. It looks really nice and like I said he was tickled.

Birthday Card for Ally

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

So my most favorite pretty girl turned 16 a couple of weeks back and we had a party for her.  I wanted to make a card she would ohhh and ahh over and I have a ton of cards and card stock from my paper stash. (That's what happen when you plan a wedding twice and then elope!) Can we say card stock out the wazoo...
Anyhow, I decided to uses some of the Color Me Paper  for my background and to keep it fairly simple.
I embossed my petal of the card with my swirl embossing folder and my cuttlebug. Cut my butterflies with my Sentimentals cartridge and layered them adding just a bit of bling.Used Ranger Distress ink for my color and made sure I got all my edges. Then I sprayed everything with sparkle Shimmer Spritz added na nfew pearls, Et Voila ! She loved it.

Thinking of You Card

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

I've been working on learning lately. Learning LOTS of different techniques which is just fascinating to me. One of my favorite places to learn new things is the Weekly Webisodes over at Paper Wishes I advise you to not venture there unless you are better than I am at controlling the desire to  purchase every cool thing they have on their website.

That said they were actually the inspiration for my wedding invitations that I'm working on thanks to their wonderful Color Me Papers. I've got a whole slew of these papers that I am hand coloring for the wedding invitations. But. In order to figure out what the heck I'm doing I've had to do some playing. The thing I really like about this paper is that Paper wishes/Hot Off the Press has done all the hard work for you, by stamping and and heat embossing the raised image with clear embossing powder. All you have to do is add your color to show off the beautiful designs. So here we have a card that I've recently done with lots of different techniques I've been trying out.

The card itself is from my stash of primary cards from Joann's. The blue swirled paper is the Swirl Color Me. I applied ink from my Surf Cat's Eye with a make up sponge dabbing all over the surface and then wiping the ink off the raised swirl images with a paper towel. My Lady Bug image is from Bugaboo Stamps. This I colored with my chalks and although you can't really tell from this picture the Lady Bugs were topped with Rangers Glossy Accents.

Here's a close up of my circle sentiment. I've been fascinated with these in the last couple of weeks. This sentiment is from the great designers over at Squigglefly.  I love circle sentiments but I have some major issues cutting and so... Well lets just say the embellishments I quilled for this was to hide the fact that I apparently cant follow a line very well. Even with a template. I was rather tickled with my fringed flower. I really like adding the three dimensional quality to things I'm working on. Sure, it makes it harder to send through the mail but it's awful pretty to look at.
